PROGRAMME

2.5 HOUR SESSION – STARTING TIME OF EITHER

3.00 / 3.15 / 3.30 / 3.45 / 4.00 / 4.15 / 4.30

Alan will open the evening with two/three vocabulary development games. After this he will cover the following:

  1. Consistent-language approaches to punctuation – Alan will demonstrate the need for whole-school approaches and then model strategies based on his punctuation apps and book.
  2. How to use the sentence types effectively – Alan will explain the thinking behind his ‘Exciting Sentences’ approach and then unpick a range of examples including 2A / 4A / 3ed / De: de sentences etc. Importantly, he will explicitly consider how NOT to use them in schools / how to avoid tick lists etc.
  3. Beyond phonics – Alan will consider visual strategies as well as morphemic approaches to spelling development
  4. Contextualised grammar and punctuation: the evening will end with a broad range of ideas (including apps) for contextualising grammar and punctuation in engaging writing sessions (avoid ‘drilling’).

ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL LEAVE WITH A VAST RANGE OF PRACTICAL IDEAS
